Sam’s Discipleship Class

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo I am with you to the end of the age.” (Matt. 28 19-20 NASB) In The Great Commission there are two main objectives. To go out into all the world and preach the Gospel, and to teach others all that we have been commanded. The first objective we call evangelism, the second is called Discipleship. Here at Zion Bible Church we take these two commands very seriously. We have a dedicated group of partners that go out weekly into the communities in our area to preach the Word of God and win souls for Christ! Anyone who is interested may join this group by touching base with Rin Jenkins, an Elder at our church. However in this blog we will be focusing on the Discipleship portion of this command and providing resources so believers know what basic discipleship is and prepare them to disciple another new believer.

To share the Gospel with someone and watch them give their life to Christ without ever discipling them would be like telling a new born baby to move out, get a job and provide for their family without helping build any of the necessary skills to accomplish that. You see, just as parents raise their Children teaching them how to eat, walk, and think, the church must also come alongside new believers and teach them how to navigate scripture, walk in holiness, and act in faith. Once a new believer has gone through basic discipleship the training wheels come off and they can be turned loose to disciple other Christians. As they grow they will discover what gifts the Holy spirit has given them and they will use those gifts to edify the Body of Christ! The process then repeats itself as the new Christians they have discipled will mature and do the same. This is exactly what Paul describes in Ephesians 4: 11-16!

Here are the basic categories of what a Christian needs to learn in discipleship: knowledge, holiness, faith, and evangelism. Follow along with Sam Martin as he teaches in depth what each of these categories contains and how to teach it. (Packets for each video will be provided as a PDF to print at your convenience.)
